Well, it took until February 8th, but the frosty weather finally caused us a very brief inconvenience this early evening. The intake vent (lowest in photo) sucked in enough cold moist air to frost itself almost entirely closed causing our hot water tank combustion chamber to starve for air and shut down.

The simple fix is to reach into the vent and clear as much of the frost as possible, using either your hand or a small tool (spatula or wooden spoon work well). The unit will cycle itself back up and begin operating normally in short order.

In the event there is a screen installed inside the vent (designed to keep out small rodents and birds), simply pull it out and put aside until we have some warmer weather.

In the event of no hot water in your home, check these vents first before calling a plumber or your builder. If you’d like more info, our team would be happy to help, simply email [email protected]
